QR pairing

Pair your phone to a running session by scanning a QR code (or a 6-character fallback).

01 · CLIENTWaiting
codeam pair / Pair Device
  • QR + 6-char code shown
02 · PHONEPairing
Scan or type code
  • 5-minute TTL
03 · SESSIONOnline
Bound by session ID
  • Code no longer needed

Whichever client you run — codeam-cli, the VS Code/Cursor/Windsurf extension, or the JetBrains plugin — pairing works the same way: the client requests a 6-character code and displays it alongside a QR code. Scan it (or type it) in the mobile app or web dashboard to bind your account to that session.

One flow, every client

CLI, VS Code-family extension, and JetBrains plugin all show the same QR + 6-character code pairing UI.

Time-boxed codes

Codes are bound to the client session and expire after 5 minutes for safety.

Bound by session, not code

After pairing completes, CodeAgent routes messages by session ID — the code is no longer needed.

Multiple devices

Pair up to 2 devices on FREE, up to 5 on PRO; use codeam sessions to list and switch between them.

  1. 1
    Start the client

Run codeam pair, or the "Pair Device" / "CodeAgent: Pair Device" command in your IDE.

  2. 2
    Open the app

Sign in to the mobile app or web dashboard and tap "Pair Device".

  3. 3
    Scan or type

Scan the QR code, or type the 6-character fallback code, within 5 minutes.

  4. 4
    Start prompting

Once paired, the phone sees the client as an "online agent" — send your first prompt.

NOTE

No peer-to-peer fallback exists — both the phone and the client need an internet connection to reach CodeAgent.
